Although O.J. Simpson admitted to being involved in the burglary, he denied breaking into any hotel rooms and said no one was carrying a weapon. Apparently, he was there to get back sports memorabilia that he claimed had been stolen from him – the same things Simpson had to sell to pay his lawyers and the Goldman family.
Eventually, Simpson and three others were charged with multiple felonies, including assault, carrying a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, and criminal conspiracy. He faced a life sentence and was initially found not guilty. However, a retrial saw O.J. sentenced to 33 years in prison. The stretch started in 2008, but Simpson would be eligible for parole after nine years.
